Holiday ban for Vienna doctors during Euro 2008
Austrian doctors have had their leave cancelled during this summer’s EURO 2008 for fear that so many people will have heart attacks following their favourite teams.
The Viennese Union of Hospitals has banned holidays during the tournament, which starts in June, and are taking on extra staff in some hospitals.
Wilhelm Marhold, general director of the Viennese Union of Hospitals, said: "The 2006 World Cup in Germany showed there was a much higher risk of heart attacks on days when people’s teams are playing."
