Organizational Setting

The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle, and the management of nuclear wastes; in catalysing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; in developing indigenous capabilities for national energy planning; in deploying new nuclear power plants; in preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and in advancing science and industry through improved operation of research reactors.

The department has a dynamic, participative and interactive operating environment with inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy and decision-makers, and technical counterparts in Member States and the international development community.

Main Purpose

As a member of a team led by the Programme Coordinator, the Programme and Publication Officer contributes to the coordination activities related to planning, monitoring, assessing and reporting for Major Programme 1 - Nuclear Power, Fuel Cycle and Nuclear Science. The Programme and Publication Officer also supports the NE Department’s process for preparation and delivery of publications, advises the Department management team and scientific / technical staff on publishing preparation issues and serves as Secretary of the NE Department Documentation Coordination Team (DCT).

Role

The Programme and Publication Officer is: (1) an advisor to programme managers on project and programme formulation and implementation reporting; (2) an analyst and facilitator, reviewing and analysing performance data in order to facilitate performance and risk assessment according to results-based principles; (3) a team member, working collaboratively within the Programme Coordinator Group of the Department to enhance programme synergies and coordination of cross-cutting activities and a substantive contributor, drafting and preparing various documentation; (4) an advisor (to both staff and external authors) providing support during the preparation of NE Department publications and other relevant materials to be published; and (5) the Secretary of the Department of Nuclear Energy’s DCT and the principal liaison between the NE Department and the Publishing Section.
