Division Mandate: To provide leadership and action and to support Member States in attaining a greater level of awareness for the promotion of healthy environments and populations by addressing key health-related social, environmental and behavioural risk factors and determinants. This programme will respond to the needs of the population in the aspects of lifestyle approach to the impact of climate change, and noncommunicable diseases, healthy environment, health promotion and related health systems to promote healthy social and physical environments where people live, study, work and play as a substantial and essential element of Sustainable Development, Health Equity and Gender Inequities.

Unit Mandate:

Violence and Injury Prevention: To assist Member States with policies and promoting multisectoral action to prevent and reduce death, morbidity, trauma and disability resulting from violence and injuries, particularly those related to road traffic crashes, drowning and interpersonal violence against women, children and youth.

-> Member States supported to develop, strengthen, implement and evaluate national strategies, plans and programmes for violence and injury prevention;
-> Assistance provided in building technical capacity at all levels in order to strengthen the response to violence and injuries, including surveillance, evidence-based practice and evaluation;
-> Regional networks established and strengthened to share best practices and to promote concerted actions across sectors and countries;
-> Magnitudes and trends of violence and injury in the region monitored and reported; and

-> Resources mobilized for injury and violence prevention at various levels

Harmful use of alcohol: To assist Member States in reducing harmful use of alcohol by supporting efforts in the development and implementation of policies and programmes for reducing the harmful use of alcohol throughout the region,

-> Report of systematic review of alcohol control policy, legislation, plans and programmes.
