OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The mission of the Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals (IVB) is to work towards a world in which all people are vaccinated against vaccine preventable diseases. The overall work of the department is distributed in three main areas: 1. Initiative Vaccine Research Team (IVR) that provides leadership on the research activities to develop new or improved vaccines against diseases of public health importance and to facilitate their introduction and use. 2. Immunization policy that provides guidance and norms for vaccine roll-out. 3. The Expanded Programme on Immunization Team (EPI) aimed at maximizing access to high quality immunization services, strengthen surveillance systems, and establishes links to other interventions.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Provide technical guidance and support to the MVIP, and to the three pilot countries to implement and evaluate the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine. Serve as the MVIP focal point for vaccine supply to ensure timely availability of RTS,S/AS01 in pilot countries by interacting with vaccine manufacturers and coordinating activities between the manufacturer, UNICEF, the MoH and other partners, as relevant. Serve as the MVIP focal point for donor agencies, ensure monitoring and timely reporting of MVIP activities and deliverables in line with the terms of the funding agreements. Oversee technical reporting by implementing partners and coordinate with the Department Finance Officer to ensure timely availability of funds to partners, and appropriate monitoring and reporting. To contribute to the strategic planning and coordination of resource mobilization efforts to secure additional funding for Programme completion. Collaborate with the Regional Office for Africa (AFRO), WHO country offices, MoHs and partner agencies in preparing for vaccine introduction, support implementation activities and ongoing performance monitoring, and provide technical input into strategies for the same. Provide support to the coordination and collaboration of global, regional, and country-level stakeholders (internal and external) in implementing the MVIP, contribute to information sharing, technical interactions and communication at all levels. Provide programmatic updates and technicaladvice to enable appropriate oversight of MVIP, including to MVIP advisory bodies, and other global or regional expert advisory committees and coordination mechanisms addressing the RTS,S/AS01 vaccine. Serve as the MVIP focal point for strategic planning in collaboration with partners regarding future access to RTS,S/AS01 should there be a WHO policy recommendation for wider use, including efforts to secure supply and funding. Develop and deliver technical presentations to advisory groups, partners, MoHs, international stakeholders, etc, as required. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisory line.
