Organisational Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) is a vital interface between global policies in the economic, social and environmental spheres and national action. UN DESA collaborates closely with its partners at regional and country levels in helping countries to formulate and implement national sustainable development strategies. UN-DESA’s work addresses a range of cross-cutting issues that affect peoples‘ lives and livelihoods and is founded on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) supported by the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development. The Financing for Sustainable Development Office, UN DESA provides coherent and integrated support to Member States in addressing the issues related to financing for development, as well as the means of implementation for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Communications internship is for 3-4 months, with possibility of extension up to 6 months. The Office does three recruitments per year. The first recruitment is for the period of January through April; the second is from May to August; and the third one is from September to December. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

The intern will work with the Financing for Sustainable Development Office, under the supervision of the chief of the Strategic Engagement and Policy Integration Branch. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background as well as the internship period.

The intern will work on developing communication strategies for the office, for example preparing printable materials, designing the corporate presentation, developing the social media of the office, among other tasks. The responsibilities of the internship position will include:
