Organisational Setting and Reporting
The internship with the Inter-organizational and Inter-institutional Support Branch (IISB) of the Office of Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development (OISC) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) is for two months, with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the Department.
The internship is UNPAID and full time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in IISB to which they are assigned.
The Inter-organizational and Inter-institutional Support Branch (IISB) of the Office of Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development (OISC) of UN-DESA:
Supports the Economic and Social Council’s oversight and coordination role over the work of its subsidiary bodies, in particular its functional commissions
Engages the United Nations Funds, Programmes and Specialized Agencies in the work of the Economic and Social Council, in particular in the ECOSOC Youth Forum and the Integration Segment
Engages civil society, including non-governmental organizations, youth, foundations and the private sector in the work of the Council, in particular the Youth Forum
Organizes special ECOSOC meetings on emergencies and emerging issues
Promotes the mainstreaming of peacebuilding issues in the work of the Council to strengthen the nexus between peace and development
Undertakes communication and outreach activities to raise the profile of ECOSOC
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Undertaking research on key issues for the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC);
Assisting in the substantive and organizational preparations of the annual ECOSOC Youth Forum, the ECOSOC Integration Segment and the High-Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development (HLPF);
Organization of panel discussions, roundtables, briefings for the membership of ECOSOC;
