The FAO Regional Office for Asia Pacific (RAP) is supporting member countries to transform agriculture production towards a more sustainable, environment-friendly and efficient system. Currently, we are operating a regional Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) project on building capacity on promoting economically and environmentally efficient rice production through direct-seeded rice in three beneficiary countries. FAO seeks an experienced rice specialist to implement the project through technical interventions, training facilitation, and coordination with national consultants and government partners housed in the RAP’s Food and Agriculture Support (AFS) group.
The incumbent will work under the overall managerial administrative leadership of the Assistant Director-General (ADG) for Asia and the Pacific, direct supervision of the Leading Technical Officer of the TCP project, and in close collaboration with colleagues in AFS and other groups, RAP and country offices and HQ.
Rice agronomy and integrated crop management in direct seeded rice practices for efficiency and sustainable rice production
Tasks and responsibilities
Support the organization of project related regional workshops such as workshop agenda, coordination with host government partners, and participants and etc.
Support the national consultant for the preparation of policy draft advocating for the promotion of DSR in beneficiary countries
Support the analysis of training needs of implementing DSR in the beneficiary countries
Design training modules that will be used in training and workshops for DSR implementation
Oversee preparation and implementation of training and workshops for DSR implementation, including development of training frameworks, pre-training and pre-workshop activities, program development, and post-training in collaboration with training team and implementing partners (if any)
Convene and collaborate various high level partners, expert advisors, stakeholders, and institutions in disseminating information and gathering inputs for promoting DSR
Manage project monitoring, evaluation, and learning framework

Prepare and submit the project report by reviewing and compiling progresses from the beneficiary countries
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Advanced university degree in agronomy and crop science
7 years of relevant experience at national and international level in rice sustainable production and crop management in developing countries, preferable in Southeast Asia.
Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian.
