Organization Setting: UN Environment is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UN Environment Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) is globally recognized as an approach for recognizing, demonstrating and capturing nature’s values in decision-making in order to improve human wellbeing. The consultant will provide services for the following two projects: (i) "Supporting Biodiversity and Climate-friendly Land Management in Agricultural Landscapes" in Colombia, Kenya, Tanzania and Thailand‘, and ii) "Promoting biodiversity and sustainability in the agriculture and food sector through economic valuation (TEEB implementation)" in Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Malaysia and Thailand.

The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head of Biodiversity and Land Branch and report directly to Head of the Ecosystem Services Economics (ESE) Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities: In collaboration with the TEEB communication officer, the consultant will provide the following services: Activity 1: Maintain IKI and EU-PI TEEBAgriFood project websites

As part of the cross-cutting TEEBAgriFood IKI and EU-PI funded project on knowledge sharing, outreach and capacity building, the consultant is to maintain a dedicated webpage for TEEBAgriFood country implementation. The website is intended to be a ‚one-stop-shop‘ for each of the partner countries, and new content will be provided on at least a monthly basis. Sub-pages are to be maintained for IKI partner countries (Colombia, Kenya, Tanzania and Thailand) as well as EU-PI partner countries (Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Malaysia and Thailand).

Specific sub-activities pertaining to Activity 1 are as follows:

Update and maintenance of the WordPress platform and Content Management System (CMS), to ensure optimal functioning and browsing experience

Conduct a monthly backup and maintaining copies

Remove/disables plug-ins, broken links and inactive themes

Tags adobe creative suite agricultural land biodiversity capacity development computer science content management economies in transition ecosystem services environmental management environmental policy fine arts graphic design knowledge sharing land management sustainable development web development wellbeing

Address troubleshooting problems, including bugs, viruses and undertake any security monitoring in order to prevent malware attacks or hacks from occurring

Restore structure and content in case of failures

Advise on additional features/functions that can improve the website look, feel and appearance and, where possible, integrate those features/functions

Source and integrate visual artwork from stock photo and video libraries

Edit pre-recorded or animated video material

Activity 2: Support virtual participation at TEEB conferences and workshops through IT supportive tools

Offer back-end support during conferences and symposia

Support with the development of interactive virtual elements for meetings and conferences

Digital capacity building for the team to include IT supportive tools in virtual workshops

Qualifications/special skills

Skills: Excellent coordination skills, and an ability to follow instructions, work under pressure as a part of a team, or independently as required and ensure excellent attention to detail.

Academic Qualifications: An advanced university degree in Computer Science, Web development and Management, Fine Arts, Graphic Design or related subjects is required. A first level degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in the field of web development and management/graphic design/layout/publication/visual arts.

Proven ability to work with latest graphic design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) and ability to deliver timely and high quality results under tight deadlines

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, oral and written English is required.
