The Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment (OCB) leads FAO’s work under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) and liaises with other multilateral environmental agreements and action plans, while mainstreaming gender and nutrition in FAO’s strategies related to the sustainable use, management and conservation of natural resources for food and agriculture. OCB works with other FAO’s divisions to ensure that countries and stakeholders respond to the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation, and keep the sustainability of natural resources high on the agenda.
The incumbent will report to and work under the overall supervision of the Senior Programme Officer and Senior
Communications Specialist in OCB, and under the functional supervision of the Office of Corporate Communications (OCC).
Technical advice in the design and implementation of communication and outreach for projects, strategies and services in connection with FAO strategic objectives and field programmes and activities implemented by OCB workstreams on climate change, biodiversity, environment, and green and blue finance.
Tasks and responsibilities
Support and contribute to the preparation, production and dissemination of communications and knowledge materials, including proofreading, editing and formatting of content ensuring adherence to FAO style and high quality technical and policy-relevant content;
Support organization and outreach for workshops, webinars and events;
Support teams with research, analysis and writing of draft documents and knowledge products (videos, brochures, fact sheets, speaking points, publications, as well as materials for social media, etc.);
Coordinate the production and oversee the dissemination of knowledge materials relative to team areas of work;
Coordinate and upload publications in the FAO Publications Workflow System (PWS);
Maintain relevant websites, webpages and social media;
Coordinate translations of materials;
Support outreach for flagship publications and relevant meetings, to share knowledge materials, results of projects and events through FAO social media;
Ensure that all communication materials comply with FAO corporate standards and obtain the necessary clearances from the Office of Corporate Communication;
Perform other duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
University degree in communication and/or ICTs, journalism, sustainable development or related areas with a focus on social sciences, environment, agricultural sciences or related field.
At least one year of professional experience in communication for development, particularly in the agriculture, environment, or sustainable development sector, including some experience in preparing materials and campaigns for social media, managing list servers, and etc.
Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian.

Knowledge of FAO methods for communication for development or dialogue facilitation an asset.
Knowledge of FAO’s strategies activities and methodologies in communication for development.
Excellent analytical and conceptual skills, as well as gender sensitive and cross-cultural competency.
Ability to operate effectively in a team, contributing positively to team operations and working relationships. Work experience in more than one location or area of work
Research and analytical skills, and ability to present and communicate effectively both orally and in writings.
Demonstrated ability to identify appropriate media and channels.
Practical knowledge and proven experience working with relevant ICT software
