The United Information Centre as part of the Department of Global Communication (DGC) in the Strategic Communications Division (SCD) invites you to be part of an internship programme during 2020.
The Department of Global Communications / Strategic Communication Division internship is for an initial period of two months, with an opportunity for extension up to, but not exceeding, six months, pending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) of the National Information Officer (NIO) or the Public Information Assistant (PIA).
This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Rio de Janeiro, within the Information Centres Service (ICS), Strategic Communications Division (SCD), Department of Global Communications (DGC). (Duration: 6 months period in 2021)
Under the supervision of the National Information Officer (NIO) or the Public Information Assistant (PIA), the responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Assist Assit in the production of cards and design materials for social media, exhibitions, folders, posters, invites, brochures, leaflets, animation etc; Assist the work in journalism (translation from/to English of text or/and graphics). Daily activities will therefore depend on the needs of the Centre and will take into account the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Tasks may include but are not limited to: *assist in editing in Adobe Creative Suite (such as Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign); *Assist in organizing activities;
COMMUNICATION: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; asks questions to clarify and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; tailors language, tone, style and format to match audience; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.
TEAMWORK: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing others‘ ideas and expertise; is willing to learn from others; places team agenda before personal agenda; supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position; shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.
CLIENT ORIENTATION: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be "clients" and seeks to see things from clients‘ point of view. To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in Portuguese and knowledge of English (at least read, write and translate) are required for the internship.

This internship is designed only for Communication, Design or Graphic Design students or graduated Communication, Design or Graphic Design students. A portfolio will be requested during the selection process.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, interns may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. The intern must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.
