UNDP Maldives employs a strategic approach to communications, with the aim of increasing visibility and public awareness of our work as well as strategically addressing the specific gaps and challenges we face. Our approach is to able to attract and support the engagement of diverse stakeholder groups, including youth, civil society, national and international partners etc. Our communications activities also support effective advocacy and aim to strengthen and expand partnerships with diverse stakeholders locally and internationally.
Under the guidance and supervision of the UNDP Maldives Communication Officer, the Communications Assistant supports the implementation of the communications and advocacy strategies of the UNDP Maldives Office to increase the standing and awareness of UNDP with partners, the media and the public. The Assistant promotes a client-oriented approach consistent with UNDP rules and regulations. The Assistant works in close collaboration with programme, projects ad operations staff in the Country Office (CO) and with UNDP HQs staff to exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery. The post also includes providing operational and administrative support to the Communication portfolio ensuring high quality, accuracy and consistency of work.
Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Provide support in the management of UNDP Maldives‘ social media presence and website
Provide support to the development of UNDP Maldives communications and advocacy materials
Provide media relations support to UNDP Maldives
Support to events and initiatives
Contribute to knowledge management and sharing
Administrative and Operational Support to Communications Unit
Provide support in the management of UNDP Maldives‘ social media presence and website
Works closely with Communications Officer and relevant focal points to assist gathering information and creating engaging content for social media channels and the website;
Update social media channels and the website in a timely manner, and keep them brand-focused;
Keeping up-to-date and analyzing social media and website trends and ways of connecting with audiences;
Assist with SEO (search engine optimization) and generation of inbound traffic on social media and measure results on a regular, and where needed, on a daily basis to establish audience growth and profile, drive audience engagement and content reach, measure leads, response rate and quality and feedback;
Research, compile and produce reports on web statistics on a regular basis and electronic surveys;
Maintain files, databases, and systems relevant to UNDP Maldives‘ digital presence;
Track and monitor social media and report relevant information to management team;
Design and create social media content (infographics, videos, GIFs, social media cards etc.).
Provide support to the development of UNDP Maldives communications and advocacy materials
Coordinate/draft briefing materials, press releases, key messages, media advisories, human interest stories, articles, brochures, leaflets etc.;
Translation/adaptation/rewriting of information received (especially English to Dhivehi);
Where needed review translations;
Graphic design support to create visual concepts. Includes designs for print and electronic media including for website, social media, magazines, brochures, user interfaces, product labels, reports etc.;
Assistance to ensure printing and dissemination of publications and audio-visual materials etc.;
Maintain library/ database of reference materials and photos;
Update contact lists for donor and partner relations;
Photography support.
Provide media relations support to UNDP Maldives
Maintain and update database of relevant media bodies and outlets in country;
Assistance with media liaison;
Respond to requests for information, as delegated;
Gather and compile inputs for talking points, media appearances.
Support to events and initiatives
Support for initiatives such as media events, press briefings, exhibitions, receptions, meetings, report and survey launches, roundtable discussions, briefing sessions, interviews, and public information campaigns etc.;
Provide support on special web/digital/media projects undertaken by UNDP Maldives.
Contribute to knowledge management and sharing

Contribute to the identification of best practices and lessons learned;
Support to organize trainings and workshops on communication practices;
Support regular meetings of communications focal points;
Provide/ exchange information with HQ, UNDP Regional Offices, other Country Offices, UN Resident Coordinator’s Office and other UN Agencies, and corporate as well as local and global knowledge and communication networks.
Administrative and Operational Support to Communications Unit
Providing efficient programmatic and operational support to Communication portfolio;
Proper control of the supporting documents for payments and financial reports the portfolio;
Facilitating payment process by liaising with Clustering Office in UNDP;
Proper receipting of goods and services and establishment of accruals;
Timely corrective actions on unposted vouchers, including the vouchers with budget check errors, match exceptions, unapproved vouchers;
Maintenance of the proper filing system for finance records and documents;
Support recruitment processes in accordance with UN/UNDP rules and regulations;
Support procurement process in accordance with UNDP rules and regulations.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Completed Higher/Secondary Education with five years of related experience or;
Undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science or a related field is desirable with atleast one year of related experience
Experience:
Progressive experience in communications/public relations/marketing/social media management as well as knowledge of general administration/operations;
Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.), and design software (e.g. Adobe);
Experience in handling of web-based management systems will be an advantage. Training will be provided;
Experience in the use of social media and digital communication;
Experience in content writing. Excellent drafting and translation skills, Dhivehi and English;
Experience necessary in working with a diverse team, and working under pressure;
Commitment to excellence and proven competency in continuous learning.

Proficiency in English and Dhivehi
