Organizational Setting

The Office of Communications (OCC) is responsible for all corporate and internal communication activities of the Organization. It ensures coherence and consistency in FAO’s corporate messaging and communications‘ outputs, as well as enables cost-effectiveness in use of communication-related resources across the Organization.

Reporting Lines

The Communication Officer (Multimedia Producer) reports to the Senior Communication Officer, Head Digital and Multimedia, OCCI.

Technical Focus

Creation of high-quality visual content (videos, photos etc.) to showcase FAO’s programmatic work and as content for flagship campaigns and events.

The provision of external and internal communication-related activities.

Key Functions

Processes, coordinates arrangements, and delivers services;
Researches and analyses communication policy and service delivery issues, maintains operational statistics, and prepares related reports;
Contributes to the development of information and training materials and coordinates and assists in the presentation of information/ training sessions to management and staff;
Provides information and advice to management and staff;
Participates in project teams and work groups.

Specific Functions

Collaborates with digital editors and producers to create compelling multimedia stories and communications products to achieve communication goals;
Assists with the distribution of multimedia materials to news broadcasters and digital media platforms;
Keeps abreast of and implements the latest filming techniques, technical equipment and editing software, music and stock footage and editing techniques including graphics;
Supports the development of a content management system (DAM) which incorporates FAO’s video, photo and digital assets under one system;
Builds FAO’s capacity for visual communications by increasing the quality of video and photo assets in the FAO’s digital asset management system (DAM) and promoting the production and use of assets which meet professional standards;
Ensures the management of audio/video archives, and the proper safekeeping/preservation of historical audio/visual materials;
Assists in providing advisory support and guidance to Country Offices, Regional Offices and other FAO offices on production including standards, formats and storytelling;
Assists in the management contracts with outsourced production houses, agencies, experts and vendors to create top-quality multimedia assets;
Researches and edits photos and videos for use on websites, social media and other digital platforms and for publications;
Assists with photographs at highâlevel events and of FAO’s executive leadership and for marketing purposes CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

Advanced university degree in communication, communication technology, journalism, or related field;
Three years of relevant experience in communication, news or journalism environment and/or social media networks;
Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish)

Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable;
Extent and relevance of experience in communication at the international level, including experience in news, journalism and/or multimedia information products including social media and digital communication platforms;
Extent and relevance of experience in video production including filming and digital video editing in a studio setting as well as in the field;
Extent and relevance of experience producing and distributing content for broadcast media;
Extent and relevance of experience in editing with Adobe Premiere software and practical experience with Photoshop and Bridge;
Extent and relevance of experience in working with a high-quality digital asset management (DAM) system;
Proven ability to conceptualize and create photography and videos which follow editorial direction;
Demonstrated ability to produce, optimize and edit photographs and videos at professional level.

Ability to keep abreast of new technological developments in the area of communication, news and/or social media networks
