The Global Macro and Debt unit in the Macroeconomics, Trade and Investments (MTI) Global Practice (GP) is seeking to recruit an outstanding Senior Economist! Our unit consists of a dedicated team of fiscal economists and debt management experts; a macro-modelling team; and a small team of macroeconomic researchers. You would contribute to and lead analytical and technical assistance engagements on legal and financial advisory services for debt operations, complex debt related transactions, debt sustainability and fiscal risks in low and middle-income countries.
Job duties and responsibilities:
Develop, lead and contribute to cutting-edge global, regional and country-specific analytical pieces on issues related to debt and fiscal risks as well as debt restructuring at the national and subnational levels, including on tasks jointly with the IMF and for high-level international fora.
Contribute or lead technical assistance engagements on legal and financial advisory services for debt operations, debt sustainability, fiscal risks and debt transparency in low and middle-income countries. Support debt-related components in World Bank operations across different regions.
Participate in the preparation of joint World Bank-IMF Board papers where needed.
Participate actively in the MTI GP including by providing support to analytical tasks and lending operations in different regions of the World Bank.

Selection Criteria
Selection Criteria:
Minimum of a Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in economics with at least eight (8) years of relevant professional experience.
Strong track recording in analytical or operational engagements related to fiscal sustainability analysis /risks.
Cross-country knowledge in macro and debt issues and demonstrate ability to link the macro, institutional, and micro-level functional aspects; able to support findings/policy recommendations with credible analysis and tools.
Translate technical and cross-country knowledge into practical applications and contributions to country level debt policy and debt management strategies; interact with clients at the policy level.
Excellent interpersonal and negotiations skills and ability to work flexibly, creatively and to multitask as the need arises.
Able to anticipate needs and requests in the field and conduct independent policy discussions on debt policy and debt management issues with representatives of the government and non-government partners.
Understand relevant cross-sectoral areas how they are interrelated (debt, fiscal and monetary policies); able to undertake cross-sectoral work in lending and non-lending operations.
Able to translate technical analyses of debt policy and borrowing strategies, based on macroeconomic and relevant parameters into policy recommendations and cross-country lessons.
