ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Regional Bureaux (RBs), Country Offices (COs), Area/Field Offices (AOs/FOs). The job holders typically report to a Programme Policy Officer or Head of Field Office. WFP recognizes that Gender Equality and Women’s empowerment are key to fulfil its mandate of ending Global hunger and saving lives during Humanitarian Crises.The WFP Gender Policy (2015-2020), currently in the process of being updated, provides overall direction and guidance for integrating gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) in all WFP work to ensure that diverse food security and nutrition need of women, me, boys and girls are addressed.

JOB PURPOSE

In order to help the Country Office meet the commitment, building on ongoing commitments to mainstreaming and incorporating Gender transformative activities in the COs programming, WFP is seeking to hire a dynamic and driven Gender Associate. The Gender Associate is expected to lead the implementation of the annual Gender Action Plan, in close collaboration with the Gender and Protection Advisor, as well as providing ongoing technical support to WFPs interventions across the country profile including Nutrition, School Feeding, Emergency food assistance (in-kind and CBT modalities) and resilience among others.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in Gender, Human Rights or international development.

Experience:

Five or more years of progressive experience in implementing technical programs with increased level of responsability relevant to gender and inclusion.

Experience providing input to policy discussions.

Language:Fluency in both oral and written communication in Englis and Portuguese Knoweledge in at least one local Language(Desirable).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Contribute to the development of Programme activities, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with Gender Policies and guidance.

Undertake gender analysis of food and cash assistance Programmes, (for example: School Feeding, Post-harvest Loss, nutrition, FFA).

Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partner staff and Government representatives by developing training materials, designing and overseeing the delivery of Gender training activities.

Develop and coordinate Gender data gathering and analysis in coordination with M&E staff.

Support the Reporting Unit in ensuring reports and funding proposals include relevant and up to date Gender information.

Produce operational research and analytical products of relevance to Gender.

Liaise with internal and external counterparts to ensure effective collaboration in the area of Gender.

Support the identification, development and management of potential partnerships in the area of Gender.

Lead implementation of the annual Gender Action Plan.

Collaborate closely with the communications team to develop sensitive and centred Gender communications materials for internal and external purposes including commemoration of international and national days focused on Gender Equality.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

Familiarity with Agenda 2030 and respective targets - particularly SDG1, SDG2, SDG5 and SDG17 - and how the work of WFP can contribute to achieving them.

Familiarity with WFP’s mandate, Country Strategic Planning process, intervention modalities, Programme and Project lifecycle tools, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation desirable.

Basic understanding of technical and theoretical concepts pertinent to Gender.

Strong knowledge of key National and Regional contexts and issues.

Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
