Organizational Setting

The Land and Water Division aims at enhancing the agricultural productivity and advancing the sustainable use of land and water resources through their improved tenure, management, development and conservation. It addresses the challenges member countries face in ensuring productive and efficient use of land and water resources in order to meet present and future demands for agricultural products, while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the land and water quantity and quality. It promotes equitable access to these natural resources with a view to enhancing productivity, livelihoods and ecosystem services. It provides assistance to member nations in developing policies, programmes, best practices and tools in the fields of irrigation and drainage, soil conservation, drought mitigation, water rights, access to natural resources and improvement of land markets.

Reporting Lines

The International Consultant/PSA reports to the Team leader of the Water Data and information Team in the Land and Water Division.

Technical Focus

Under the guidance of the Team leader, the incumbent will support the information-awareness raising related activities of the water data team including internal, external and media relations, exhibitions, special events and international campaigns.

Tasks and responsibilities

Support the development of outreach and advocacy plans in order to raise awareness about the water-related projects and programmes through the divisional channels and networks.

Assess, in conjunction with the technical officers and the decentralized offices, the needs for information and dissemination products and campaigns.

Assist in the development of digital and printed dissemination products, including publications, videos, and ensure they adhere to the corporate policy, in consultation with the relevant departments and units.

Support, in collaboration with other FAO departments, the internal and external dissemination of project and programmes achievements.

Assist, in collaboration with relevant departments and units, in the regular update and maintenance of the project websites.

Support the organization of national and international events (live and/or online).

Perform other duties as requested.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

University degree in communication or related field.

One to four years of relevance experience for base level consultants/PSA.SBS (category C), and at least five years of relevant experience for middle base consultants/PSA.SBS (category B), and more than 12 years for consultants category A and 15 years for PSA.SBS category A.

Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian (for PSA it can be required only one language).

Work experience in more than one location or area of work

Extent and relevance of experience in supporting outreach activities for UN organizations and/or initiatives, particularly at the international level.

Extent and relevance of experience in supporting the development and/or coordinating special events, exhibitions and UN campaigns as well as the production of content for external audiences (UN agencies, research institutes, public and private partners, general public), especially in areas relevant to FAO’s mandate .

Understanding of FAO policies and programmes is considered a strong asset.

Selection Criteria

Level of experience in outreach activities related to the field of agricultural land and water management and governance.
