The OSCE Mission to Serbia’s Office of the Head of Mission (Political, Communication and Reporting Section, Reporting Unit) is looking for a temporary Senior Political and Reporting Assistant.
*The selected candidate will receive a short-term Letter of Appointment in the duration of up to 5 months and 29 days but not later than 31 December 2021 due to budgetary constraints.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Political Affairs/Reporting Officer, the incumbent is responsible for collecting information on political developments and Mission activities, preparing draft reports, talking points, background papers, news digests, and providing news/press briefings. Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for:
Collecting and analyzing information of relevance to the Mission’s political and programmatic priorities, specifically:
Preparing first drafts of the Mission’s regular Activity Reports, thematic reports, spot reports, background notes and talking points;
Researching and compiling information to draft political updates, background notes and briefing packages for the senior staff and new mission members, as well as for the visiting delegations from the OSCE Secretariat and delegations;
Providing oral summaries/briefings and written news digests on political developments and specific topics;
Providing information required for the inclusion in the Mission’s outputs to the Conflict Prevention Centre (CPC) in Vienna, as well as for political analysis by the Political Affairs/Reporting Officer and senior staff;
Providing assistance to the Political Affairs/Reporting Officer in managing the Mission’s Early Warning (EW) portfolio; when required, maintaining contacts with other Field Operations and CPC, and representing the Mission in EW meetings/training.
2. Following political developments and Mission activities in south and southwest Serbia:
Facilitating information exchange between the Office of the Head of Mission and the Mission’s field teams based in Bujanovac and Novi Pazar; attending weekly conference calls with field teams;
In co-ordination with Political Affairs/Reporting Officer and field staff, monitoring political developments in south and southwest Serbia and informing senior management accordingly; editing background papers and talking points received from field teams ahead of senior management’s relevant meetings; taking part in the preparation of the senior management’s visits to the field;
3. Providing administrative support to the Political, Communication and Reporting Section:
Providing translation and interpretation services to the Political Affairs Officers and senior staff, as needed; when required, taking minutes and drafting meeting summaries;
Performing administrative tasks;
Taking part in organizing field trips and accompanying Political Affairs/Reporting Officer and senior staff, as needed;
Maintaining the Reporting Unit’s documents‘ archive;
Assisting in providing guidance to interns;
4. Performing other duties as required.
Citizenship of or permanent residence in the Republic of Serbia;
Secondary education supplemented by formal training in social or political studies, humanities/linguistics or journalism;
Minimum six (6) years of relevant professional experience in the field of political reporting, media or communications, preferably in an international environment;

Excellent knowledge of the political and media landscape in Serbia;
Ability to conduct research and collect information from a variety of sources, using different methods;
Established drafting and summarizing skills; attention to detail;
Computer literate with practical experience in Microsoft packages;
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Serbian;
Ability and willingness to work with people of different nationalities, cultural and religious backgrounds and diverse political views while maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, as well as the ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities.

The selected candidate will receive a short-term Letter of Appointment in the duration of up to 5 months and 29 days but not later than 31 December 2021 due to budgetary constraints.
Appointments are made at Step 1 of the applicable salary scale.
Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deductions, is
EUR 1,730.83. Social benefits will include participation in the Cigna medical insurance scheme.
