Organizational Setting

The project "Development of sustainable and inclusive local agri-food systems in north-west region of Azerbaijan" aims to establish local agro-food systems that integrate sustainable food production, processing, marketing, distribution and consumption supported by a demand driven agricultural advisory services system in the north-west region of Azerbaijan (Gakh, Zagatala and Balakan).

Technical Focus

In this context, under the overall supervision of the Head of FAO Partnership and Liaison Office in Azerbaijan, direct supervision of the Assistant to FAO Representative and the technical supervision of the Lead Technical Officer, the consultant will assist in development of the approach and in initiation of the process of registration of certain local food products with Geographical Indications (GI). The consultant will specifically carry out the following functions: Tasks and responsibilities

Provide consultation on legal framework and requirements for GI registration

Work hand with the National Consultant on GI integration to GIAHS (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems)

action plan providing expert advice with reference to precedents and experiences in other countries

Develop GI registration strategy for the target region

Provide guidance to the National Consultant on general approach and methodology of GI concept and registration

The considered travel to the country can only be organized if the Covid-19 precautions at the relevant countries and FAO corporate guidelines allow it.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

A university degree (or equivalent) in relevant field.

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in food technology sector

Working knowledge of English.

Report on legal framework and requirements for GI registration with specific recommendations for the project region

A concept note on the approach and implementation methodology of GI registration in Azerbaijan (in association with the National Consultant)

Integration of GI registration approach into GIAHS action plan

Consultation with the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant authorities and stakeholders on initiation of registration of GI

Strong capabilities in formulating complex scopes of work;
Excellent computer skills especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Ability to take on assignments that require travel, mission and/or appointment to field locations;
