In Syria, WFP provides food assistance to more than 4.6 million people each month. This includes families who require emergency assistance when affected by conflict and displacement and also those who need help to improve their nutrition and food security. WFP supports children across Syria with healthy meals and snacks at school, mothers with nutritious diets, and families and communities with sustainable livelihood projects.


Based in Damascus, the Supply Chain Planning Associate will be under the direct supervision of the Head of Budget and Programming with linkage to the Head of Supply Chain.


To provide supply chain data analytics support, following an effective and integrated supply chain approach meeting the food assistance needs of beneficiaries and service provision requirements for partners.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Within delegated authority, the Supply Chain Planning Associate will be responsible for the following duties:

Support with the development and application of an operations control tower dashboard based in MS Excel, Tableau and DOTS (WFP cloud-based data platform)

Provide end-to-end operational visibility to B&P, the head of supply chain and other heads of unit, using the analytical tools developed; anticipating and flagging potential issues to be mitigated or addressed

Build tailored data analytics and data visualization models & tools to support supply chain decision making by either building on existing tools/frameworks or developing ad-hoc complementing models

Collect and analyze data and put together reports highlighting opportunities for improvement and effective operationalization of supply chain within the area of responsibility.

Perform what-if scenario analyses to support the resolution of ad-hoc issues affecting WFP operations


Education: Completion of secondary school education. University degree or equivalent in the area of supply chain management, logistics, engineering, data science, operations research, or business management.

Experience: Five years of relevant supply chain work experience in procurement, sales and operations planning, materials planning, warehousing, logistics, etc. including three years of data analytics work experience with Tableau, MS Excel or any other data anlytics tool

Language: Fluency (level C) in in oral and written communication in Arabic and in English.


Strong analytical abilities, both quantitative and qualitative, and an ability to think outside of the box

Proficiency with MS Excel, Tableau or other data analytics tools

Proficiency with a coding language (Preferably SQL and Python)

Problem-solving attitude, able to structure ambiguous problems and solve them through a mix of quantitative and qualitative analyses

Highly numerate, able to rapidly analyse and interpret data

Self-motivated and proactive, able to take initiative and work autonomously to achieve objectives

Highly developed communication skills, able to use written and verbal mediums to communicate recommendations and influence outcomes

Strong time management skills with an ability to plan ahead and anticipate requirements, problems, and obstacles

Prior experience working with government or humanitarian agencies (UN, NGOs,etc,)
