Agriculture is an essential pathway to meeting the World Bank Group’s (WBG) twin goalseliminating extreme poverty by 2030 and promoting shared prosperity. Ending extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity cannot be achieved without more and better investment in agriculture, food security, and nutrition. Meeting today’s challenges on the food and agriculture agenda will require major strides in promoting food and nutrition security, climate friendly production practices, strengthening agricultural policy and public expenditures, supporting agribusiness value chains and joint private- and public- sector action, innovation and digital technologies, and rethinking sustainable and healthy diets.

The Agriculture and Food Global Practice (AGF GP) of the WBG, working closely with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), supports a global vision of delivering a triple bottom line of a healthy economy, healthy people, and a healthy planet. The WBG is the largest provider of development assistance to agriculture and food security in the world. The AGF GE unit is looking for an experienced, high-performing, energetic team member who is adaptable and flexible with the ability to take on special assignments as the need arises. If the selected candidate is a current World Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 4 years term appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Her/his main duties/accountabilities would include:

Serve as Program Manager for Global Agriculture Food Security Program.

Serve as co-lead for the Global Alliance for Food Security.

Oversee management of the Early Response Financing-Crisis Response Window.

Oversee delivery of bi-weekly Food and Nutrition Security updates.

Oversee Early Warning for Early Action food security hub.

Respond to corporate requests on Food and Nutrition Security.

Serve as focal point for World Bank Global Food and Nutrition Security response program

Curate World Bank internal and external facing food and nutrition security webpages

Oversee food and nutrition security knowledge creation and dissemination.

Contribute or lead the coordination/preparation of VP, MD, EXC, and Board briefings, including for but not limited to Annual and Spring Meeting briefs.

Work with the Country Teams to prepare operational responses as needed.

Lead contributions to country and sector strategies, departmental priorities, lending, and non-lending work programs.

Lead and/or participate as a key team member of important strategic products/activities; and contribute to or lead the preparation of management briefs and other major or complex internal reports.

Selection Criteria

Educational Degree: At least a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in the field of agriculture economics, public policy or other relevant degree.

At least 12 years of relevant experience.

Strong technical and analytical skills in food security.

Demonstrated record of thought leadership on food security.

Strong organizational, research, and presentational skills.

Program management and donor relation experience.

Proven ability to supervise staff and work in a team and intercultural environment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
