The Supply Division oversees the procurement and logistics, including transport and warehousing, of strategic and essential supplies for children of some $6 billion annually. The Insurance Unit, in the Financial Management Centre, manages the insurance arrangements for all supplies in transit and in UNICEF warehouses and advises on risk management and insurance issues related to the UNICEF supply strategies

How can you make a difference?

Under the general supervision of the Insurance Manager, the Insurance Associate is responsible for ensuring timely claims processing for UNICEF supplies in transit and warehouses and supporting UNICEF offices to comply with policy and procedures on processing insurance claims. The Insurance Associate is responsible for executing a broad variety of procedural and specialized administrative tasks for the unit requiring in-depth knowledge of UNICEF administrative procedures, processes, and policies.

Receives, and processes insurance claims across the organization in more the 150 countries and cultures, keeping supervisor informed and advised on actions for decision/follow up

Responsible for timely and efficient screening of insurance claims, recommending appropriate course of process actions

Initiate the insurance claims process by reviewing the incoming claim in compliance with UNICEF rules and regulations

Investigate insurance claims by collecting all relevant information needed in order to submit the claim under the insurance program

Provides technical support to country office and regional office staff

Ensuring that documentation for submission to the insurance broker is complete and appropriate.

Prepares and maintains records, all claims, from submission to settlement and closure of claims files.

Prepares and maintains records of recovery claims with country offices, carriers and insurance broker

Creates, reviews, and maintains master data in SAP and claims databases relating to areas of responsibility.

Assists to ensure appropriate maritime and warehouse insurance coverage is provided.

Assists to monitor the validity of insurance policies and performance of the insurance broker and underwriters.

Assists in the preparation of policy and procedures related to insurance.

Acts as insurance focal point for UNICEF Regional Offices and Country Offices for insurance related activities.

Undertakes other relevant duties as assigned.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have...


Completion of secondary education, supplemented by business administration, and/or logistics and supply chain studies

Minimum six (6) years of relevant work experience covering areas such as marine cargo insurance, transportation claims and/or similar claims experience from the transport industry (freight forwarders and carriers)

Fluency in English


Experience from the legal industry

Experience from the marine cargo insurance industry

Solid understanding of claims processes

Proficiency in another UN language (Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese or Arabic).
