Organizational Setting
The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA’s Major Programme 2, "Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection". This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme’s objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes.
The Division of Physical and Chemical Sciences is responsible for assisting and advising Member States in research and development for the nuclear sciences, especially the physical and chemical sciences. Specifically, the Division provides support to Member States in the following fields: production of radioisotopes and radiolabelled products for applications in health care and industry; radiation source applications; research reactor utilization; applications of accelerators and nuclear instrumentation; nuclear and atomic data for applications; controlled nuclear fusion and isotope hydrology and geochemistry.
Main Purpose
Reporting to the Laboratory Head, and as a member of a team guided by the Radioecologist, the Environmental Assessment Analyst supports the organization of training programmes, workshops and technical meetings, supervises and instructs trainees, contributes to radioecological studies and modelling, prepares reports, and supports technical cooperation (TC) projects in the area of the use of nuclear techniques and laboratory work on the behaviour and impact of radionuclides and isotopes in the terrestrial and atmospheric environments.
Role
The Environmental Assessment Analyst is: (1) an organizer of conferences, seminars, technical meetings and training courses; (2) technical support to scientific programmes, including field missions, laboratory work and technical cooperation projects; and (3) a teacher/instructor of trainees in the field of environmental applications of nuclear techniques.
Functions / Key Results Expected
Take part in the preparation of proceedings, technical reports and documents.
Provide scientific knowledge and organizational support to the organization and implementation of activities (coordinated research projects, thematic meetings, workshops) to support environmental applications of nuclear techniques.
Process and evaluate data for the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication.
Provide training on the utilization of nuclear techniques for environmental applications.
Provide technical advice to technical cooperation projects in environmental protection.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills
Bachelor’s Degree
University degree in nuclear or environment related disciplines. An advanced degree in these fields is an asset.
At least two years of working experience in nuclear science activities, with emphasis on nuclear analytical techniques, radioecology and/or environmental studies.
Some teaching experience in methodology and applications of nuclear techniques with emphasis on environmental applications and/or laboratory operations.
Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
Remuneration
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $50377 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 23627*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks‘ annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
