Resident Manager, Hospitality and Travel Services (Ref No: DDG-CS/RM/HTS/12/17)

Background: The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for the

internationally recruited position of Resident Manager, Hospitality and Travel Services.

IITA is one of the world’s leading research partners in finding solutions for hunger, malnutrition, and

poverty. Its award-winning research-for-development (R4D) approach addresses the development

needs of tropical countries. IITA works with partners to enhance crop quality and productivity, reduce

producer and consumer risks, and generate wealth from agriculture. IITA is a non-profit organization

founded in 1967 in Nigeria and governed by a Board of Trustees. IITA works on the following crops:

cowpea, soybean, banana/plantain, yam, cassava, and maize. It is a member of CGIAR, a global

agriculture research partnership for a food secure future. Please visit http://www.iita.org/ for more

information on IITA.

IITA operates an International House (I-House), with 108 well-appointed rooms, spacious dormitory

facilities, and a conference hall that is an ideal venue for organizing workshops, retreats, team building

exercises, or a relaxing weekend with the family. The campus also has leisure and recreational

facilities, and a community store which offers basic household goods for campus residents.

The IITA Guest House at Ikeja, Lagos has thirteen rooms while the Abuja Guest House has eight, both

furnished for staff and guests. Please visit http://iitainternationalhouse.org/ for further information.

Position profile: The position requires a dynamic and energetic individual who leads by example. A

manager who can balance the official needs of the Institutes (workshops, conferences and visitors)

with those of the multi-cultural resident community (staff with their families) and national staff while

marketing its service to fellow organizations to maintain a zero budget.

Ideally with a strong food and beverage background, the successful individual would be looking for a

challenge a little different than the mainstream hotel and hospitality industry.

A demanding and challenging task that can be incredibly rewarding for the right candidate.

There would be an initial period of training and integration with the current manger prior to taking full
