Organizational Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This position is in UN Environment’s West Asia Office in Manama, Bahrain.

Under the guidance of the Regional Director, West Asia Office and the direct supervision of the Manager of Implementation, the incumbent will carry out the following duties

Responsibilities

1. Conduct effective communication with the relevant authorities, institutions and Government departments and international bodies e.g. by serving as the first point of contact on project matters, organizing stakeholder consultations and facilitating stakeholder meetings.

2. Coordinate activities related to UN Environment projects‘ execution in Iraq, by coordinating preparations and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).

3. Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned projects for Iraq, etc.; monitors and analyzes project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions. Research, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources on environmental issues in Iraq with view to assist in identifying needs and entry points for UN Environment programmatic support to Iraq.
